There are numerous steps in the project design and development process.

The exact process will vary slightly from developer to developer and so as from project to project, but the basics are generally the same.

My development process involves 6 phases:

1. Information Gathering (understanding business, user needs and web personas)
2. Planning (analyzing the data gathered, deciding the best possible approach for the project)
3. Design (putting together wireframes, mockups, prototypes and visual designs)
4. Development (finishing the prototype, creating a design spec and consultation during implementation)
5. Testing and Delivery (testing and cross referencing for complete functionality, as well last testing for last minute compatibility issues)
6. Maintenance (keeping the project up to date)
